I have always been drawn to expressing ideas through art making. My favorite time in school was art class. This passion followed me through my childhood and into my adult life. While studying Languages at universities in China and Korea and America, I found the universal language was really in art. I studied ancient calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, later working in 3-dimension, and silver craft All of these experiences inform my work.
I mix several materials in my sculpture, including clay, wood ,found metals and silver clay. I feel that working in a single medium is restrictive to my processes, and each element or material brings its own association or meaning to the work.
I enjoy hiking in my spare time and many of these pieces are directly influenced by my experiences in nature, which I find to be healing for body and soul. I love recreating plants and wildlife in my pieces. I also am very interested in human nature, the predicaments of humans, and the love, nurture and inspiration that we can offer each other.
